Setting it up
Some ideas to think about before you set up a course…
Get organised!
Alpha for Students is easy to set up and really easy to use
– however, it does need to be organised if the course
is to achieve its full potential. We recommend that one person
becomes the administrator – someone who can oversee
the course, set it up and keeps it going! Ideally this would
be someone who has a real passion for students and is organised.
Choose your team
It’s essential to select a team of small group leaders
and helpers. We also recommend that you have a taskforce team
– this would usually be people who are not ready to
be group leaders but are willing to serve in other ways like
serving food, cleaning up, or setting up the room.
Choose your venue
Find somewhere that is accessible for everyone, has good lighting
and is not situated in a noisy place – so that guests
are not disturbed!
Set your dates
Try and fit your course into your term or semester –
we recommend that courses always try and stick to the 10 week
syllabus. However, if this is a problem the course can fit
into fewer weeks. It works well when you have rolling courses
– for example:
- a two semester academic year – two courses
- a three term academic year – three courses
